Mike Moss writes this about his talk: "‘In my work as a therapist I have begun to discover something more in the presence of being in the
therapeutic encounter which if attended to, even in the smallest of ways, movement towards
healing can be experienced. It is as if there is some kind of guidance towards the direction for
potential growth which can be experienced as a presence of there being something more. I may be
called a counsellor and the other person a client, yet I believe that ultimately in this relationship ,
we are not separate in our fullest universal expression of being , and that there is what I have
termed a ' directional presence ' towards us both functioning more fully in each moment of
encounter. And it is by receiving this directional presence, that there is a deeper therapeutic contact
between helper and receiver of help which joins us momentarily in the mystery of life"
Mike Moss was trained was a Youth & Community worker and has worked in voluntary and
statutory roles with children and young people and their families for 40 years. He is now a registered
psychotherapist and clinical supervisor and has had many articles published on the power and
mystery of the therapeutic relationship. He has also presented his work at various workshops and
national and international conferences. Mike lives in Edinburgh and has a small private practice
offering counselling, supervision and training and works part time as a school counsellor. He can be
