Existential Supervision: Supervision Without Supervising with Dida Mitchell.

Existential therapy, existential supervision are very similar, yet we rarely talk about existential-phenomenological supervision. How might that close down the supervisee?

Society of Psychotherapy: £6.00 CPD certs available. All welcome.

Existential therapy and existential supervision are very similar and yet we rarely talk about existential-phenomenological supervision. The term supervision puts a spanner in the works straight away!

I will talk about how I see existential supervision and consider issues around responsibility, assessment, the influence of the supervisor, change/learning and uncertainty.

The supervisory relationship – how might that close down the supervisee?

My style of supervising is in sync with my style as a therapist and as a mediator.

I hope to hear how our participants see existential-phenomenological supervision.

Dida works as an existential therapist, supervisor, and mediator.

She facilitates various courses in London, Oxford and Birstonas, Lithuania, on existential therapy and supervision. She and Monica Hanaway run regular courses on mediation and co-mediation at Oxford University.

She was originally a classical ballet dancer, followed by costume supervisor, catering manager, receptionist, shop assistant and cleaning lady.

She is still married, with three children, three grandchildren, three cats and one cat has three legs.

Dida has written various papers about existential supervision and therapy for the Society for Existential Analysis’ Journal and Hermeneutic Circular.
